Health Insurance Navigators Now at 5 Fulton County Health Centers -- Open Enrollment Underway Until Jan. 31, 2017 | Print |

ATLANTA - Navigating through the insurance marketplace to sign up for health insurance can be daunting.   There are up to eight major health insurance providers in Georgia who each offer several insurance plans from which to choose.   To help health insurance seekers locate an affordable and appropriate health care plan, the Fulton County Department of Health and Wellness has partnered with the Morehouse School of Medicine and Insure Georgia to provide FREE enrollment guidance for residents who need help with enrolling in health insurance for 2017.   The goal is to enroll more than 300 uninsured or under-insured residents into an affordable health care plan. Enrollment closes January 31, 2017.

Certified health insurance navigators will be onsite at five (5) Fulton County Health Centers to guide residents through the health care market place. The navigators can help Fulton County residents apply for financial assistance, compare health plans, and sign up for insurance.   This includes enrollment help with the federally-mandated Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, which is for people who are uninsured or those who work part-time or are self-employed and do not have insurance.   For those who sign up by December 15th, coverage will begin on January 1, 2017.   To qualify for insurance under the ACA, you must be a resident of Georgia and a U.S. citizen or a U.S. naturalized citizen.

Walk-in appointments will be available at specified times on designated weekdays at the Adamsville Regional Health Center, the Center for Health & Rehabilitation, College Park Regional Health Center, Neighborhood Union Health Center and the North Fulton Service Center, now until the January 31, 2017 enrollment deadline.   To expedite your enrollment, residents can set up their login and password online at www.healthcare.gov and begin their enrollment application.   If you do not have access to a computer, the health navigators will assist you in setting up your account and guiding you through the enrollment process via their computers onsite at the health centers.   Enrollment appointments typically take 60 – 90 minutes.   Please bring official identification, proof of current insurance, if any, and proof of income (recent paycheck stubs, W-2 forms or wage and tax statements) if appropriate.

The navigators can also assist income-eligible persons with signing up for Georgia Medicaid as well as Georgia PeachCare for Kids, which is an insurance program that offers free or low-cost insurance to uninsured, eligible children living in Georgia.   Navigators will provide unbiased guidance on the health insurance options available on the insurance market exchange.   This is a FREE service that is funded by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

Insure Georgia navigator Nick Anderson encourages Fulton County residents to explore the available insurance options and explains “Whether you are comparing various plans that will meet your needs or addressing insurance related matters, we are here to assist you on your journey to better health.”

More than 70 percent of consumers can find a marketplace plan for less than $75 per month, depending on your income and eligibility for income tax credit, according to the Health and Human Services website www.hhs.gov.                       “The majority of those who enroll are often eligible for financial help to pay the cost of coverage and care.   The only way to know is to apply,” Anderson further adds.
