Fulton Commissioners Approve Launch of the North Fulton Community Center |
|
The Fulton County Commission, at its Wednesday, April 1, 2009 meeting, unanimously approved an extensive renovation project that will transform the North Fulton Government Annex at 7741 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs, into a community-friendly facility with an array of new services.
The newly named North Fulton Community Center will bring together at one site a full menu of community based services. Residents will have access to well patient care, sick patient care, OB/GYN services, a pharmacy, travel immunization services, communicable disease intervention as well as nutrition education, oral health care, and behavioral health counseling. This health center is part of a larger Fulton County initiative to address health disparities countywide.
On January 21, 2009, the Board of Commissioner adopted Resolution 09-0160 to improve health service delivery. The North Fulton Community Center renovation is a part of the Commission’s three-pronged approach to addressing health disparities in the County. The approach includes educating the community on health disparities; restructuring government to more effectively deliver services; and developing partnerships with community stakeholders and service providers.
In order to enhance community access to County services, the North Fulton Community Center will also feature a day care facility, property tax and motor vehicle licensing and registration services. Additionally, disability and vocational rehabilitation counselors will be available to serve those in need of assistance.
According to County Manager Zachary Williams, the facility will reduce the costs to the County by alleviating the need for a brand new health center in the area.
The renovation is expected to be completed by October 30, 2009.
