Fulton County’s new Animal Services building located at 1251 Fulton Industrial Boulevard is a state-of-the-art animal care facility. With over 55,000 square feet of space, the building can accommodate over 300 dogs and many other types of animals including cats, rabbits, reptiles, and horses. Most of the kennels have both indoor and outdoor access and there are designated outdoor play areas.

The building, which is planned to be LEED Silver, includes the following sustainability features:

· 28% energy cost savings compared to a baseline facility
· 30% indoor water use reduction through efficient fixtures and fittings
· 100% outdoor water use reduction
· natural daylighting, which promotes well-being and leads to energy savings
· Indoor air quality improvements including carbon dioxide monitoring, increased ventilation, and appropriately exhausting storage spaces with potential chemicals
· seven EV charging stations and 27 EV-ready parking spots
· acoustic performance designed such that sound transmission and reverberation time maximizes occupant comfort
· green cleaning and pest management policies that minimize the use of harsh chemicals and protect air quality and occupant health

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a green building rating system from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). The LEED certification is given to buildings that are healthy, efficient, and cost less to operate. In addition to the new Animal Shelter, Fulton County recently renovated or built 31 LEED-certified libraries.
