Fulton County Partners with the Atlanta History Center for Juneteenth Celebration

Fulton County’s 4-H program is supporting the Atlanta History Center’s Juneteenth celebration by showcasing an 85-year-old historic recipe from Black cooks in Appalachia on Saturday, June 15, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m at Atlanta History Center, 130 West Paces Ferry Rd., Atlanta, GA 30305.

The demonstration offers attendees the opportunity to learn to create their own rub from the memoir and cookbook Praise song for the Kitchen Ghosts: Stories and Recipes from Five Generations of Black Country Cooks by Kentucky’s Poet Laureate and O. Henry Prize-winning writer Crystal Wilkinson. The book highlights the untold stories of Black women cooks who settled in Appalachia, as well as their recipes, including corn pudding, jam cake, and more. At the end of the demonstration, visitors will receive a recipe, as well as their own bottle of rub to take home.
