Child, Adolescent, Youth and Emerging Adult Behavioral Health Services

To better address the mental health, and substance use treatment needs of children and adolescents in Fulton County between the ages of 5-24, the Fulton County Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities has established contracts with community based providers to offer services across the County. Our Network partners include CHRIS 180 and Summit counseling to offer school based Behavioral health services. In addition, Chris 180 and GA Hope provide Center based in person and telehealth outpatient Behavioral Health Services.

CHRIS 180 provides clinic based in person and telehealth outpatient services in the Health and Human Services North location and South Fulton locations. Georgia HOPE located at our Oakhill Facility provides comprehensive clinic based in person and telehealth behavioral health outpatient services. School Based counseling services are offered by Summit Counseling and Chris 180 across 66 schools in Fulton County. Together, these partnerships diminish barriers and promote access to care for children and adolescents in need of mental health services throughout Fulton County.

HOW DO I ACCESS SERVICES?

To access services from the Fulton County Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities (BHDD), Call us at (404) 612-6520. We will complete a quick screening questionnaire and be referred to the provider that is closest to you and best suited to serve your needs.

Fulton County has School- based Mental Health services in 66 schools in the County. Call us at (404) 612-6520 to complete a screening questionnaire to verify if your child’s school is within the service area. If your child’s school is not one with school-based services, a referral will be provided to other providers in the community who can best support the needs of your child/ loved one. Often referrals for school -based therapy come from School Counselors where our services are offered. However, we can also assist you with the referral, as required.
During your intake interview with the provider organization, you can discuss your insurance. However, Fulton County Behavioral health offers behavioral health services for its residents irrespective of their insurance or ability to pay for the services. We serve uninsured and underinsured Fulton County residents.
Services include individual counseling, family counseling, Psychiatric/Nurse services (telehealth also included) and community support individual services. In addition, we also provide group therapy/skills services based on the problem/need (e.g. depression, anxiety, life skills, substance use, etc.) at all locations. We provide trauma-informed services using ARC, TF-CBT, play therapy techniques, expressive therapy techniques, CBT, etc.
Behavioral health assessment can take anywhere between 1.5-2 hours and it is best if you schedule this in advance.

In older children & pre-adolescents:

  • Substance use disorders
  • Inability to cope with problems & daily activities 
  • Changes in sleeping and/or eating habits 
  • Excessive complaints of physical ailments 
  • Defiance of authority, truancy, theft, and/or vandalism 
  • Intense fear of weight gain 
  • Prolonged negative mood, often accompanied by poor appetite or thoughts of death 
  • Frequent outbursts of anger 
  • Change in school performance/attendance
  • Withdrawn social behaviors

In younger children: 

  • Changes in school performance 
  • Poor grades despite strong efforts 
  • Excessive worry or anxiety 
  • Hyperactivity 
  • Persistent nightmares 
  • Persistent disobedience or aggression 
  • Frequent temper tantrums
