Clint W. Owens currently serves as the Unit Director of the Neuroscience ICU (2D/2G) at Emory University Hospital. The unit cares for patients with subarachnoid hemorrhage, stroke (ischemic and hemorrhagic), epilepsy, brain tumors, and various neuromuscular or neurodegenerative disorders. Prior to becoming the Unit Director, Clint was a Unit Charge Nurse on the unit. Over his ten-plus year career in nursing, he has worked exclusively in the care of patients with neurological disorders in Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina. Owens was an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Western Carolina University. Owens received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Central Florida, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Western Carolina University, a Master of Science in Nursing from Duke University. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Nursing from Villanova University.
His research interests include the return to work experiences of younger, economically vulnerable stroke survivors, novel approaches to promote the primary prevention of stroke, meaningful recognition of nurses, inter-professional medical simulation utilization in an academic medicine setting, and healthy work environments in the critical care setting.
On a personal level and as a member of the LGBTQ community in Fulton County, Owens is passionate about the reduction of health disparities related to race and sexual orientation.
