Voter Challenge and Review
In January 2026, the Secretary of State introduced a “Records to Review” tile in the Georgia Registered Voter Information System (GARViS) as part of the daily voter registration list maintenance required of each county. The records identified contained one or more issues, including but not limited to discrepancies regarding a voter’s date of birth, a commercial address or a P.O. box listed as a voter’s residence. Additionally, some of the records were voters challenged by third-parties in prior years.
Upon the launch, Fulton County received more than 50,000 voter records to review. The Department of Registration & Elections Registration Division diligently reviewed these records and, over a period of several months, contacted voters to verify or update their information. The Department’s actions during this process was never to remove voters from the registration list, but to confirm and update voter data for accuracy.
Records that were unable to be updated were designated as “challenged” in the Georgia Registered Voter Information System (GARViS). This designation was utilized because GARViS does not provide a separate category to distinguish records undergoing administrative review from formal voter challenges; therefore, both are reflected in GARVIS under the “challenged” status.
As a result of the Department’s efforts, more than 40,000 voter records have been updated or corrected in 2026. Currently, there are fewer than 7,000 voters identified as potentially needing a correction or update to their voter information. These voters are designated as “challenged” in GARViS for staff to identify and continue their efforts to update records. The majority of the remaining total are records that may require administrative changes; however, a subset of these records were previously challenged by third-parties and that designation remains on the voter record.
No voters are removed from the voter registration rolls as a result of this review process unless the voter requests and signs a cancellation form. Importantly, Fulton County is not prohibiting voters from casting a ballot solely because of a “challenged” designation in their record.
To ensure clear and respectful communication, poll workers are instructed to inform affected voters that their “voter registration record requires review” rather than stating they are “challenged.”
Voters requiring residential address verification may update their address or complete a residency affirmation at the polling location before casting their ballot. Voters registered at mailbox facilities who do not provide an updated residential address are offered a provisional ballot.
The Department remains committed to maintaining accurate voter registration records. The Department worked diligently in its attempt to contact affected voters prior to the election and, for the remaining voters, is available to assist in updating their record either in advance of voting, if they contact the Department, or while they are at the polling location.
We remain committed to protecting and assisting all eligible voters in exercising their right to vote and ensuring voters receive the correct ballot for their assigned precinct.

Fulton County Voter Challenger & Review FAQs
A Challenged or Review status means another registered voter or system audit has questioned another voter’s eligibility (usually due to a suspected address change, residency issue, or administrative error). A challenge is not an automatic removal from the voter rolls.
Yes, voters still maintain their right to vote. If your voter registration status appears as “Challenged” on the My Voter Page (MVP) or at a polling location, you are still able to exercise your right to vote. This status indicates that Fulton County needs to confirm your residential address to ensure you receive the correct precinct ballot, with the correct candidates representing that residential area. You are encouraged to contact the Fulton County Department of Registration & Election.
