Kinship Care

The Department of Senior Services recognizes that many Fulton County residents age 55 and over are serving as full-time caregivers to children.

Becoming a full-time caregiver as a senior can be both rewarding and challenging. That’s why we created the Kinship Care program – to provide resources and support for senior caregivers and the children in their care.

Kinship Care refers to full-time care for children by other family members, including grandparents, aunts, cousins or informal family-like roles. Kinship Care can involve formal guardianship or informal caregiver relationships.

Seniors in these caregiving roles can benefit from the Kinship Care program, which offers:

  • opportunities for social networking with other senior caregivers
  • connection to resources for childcare, health, educational and recreational needs

To get involved in the Kinship Care program, senior caregivers are invited to:

  • Join a support group
  • Engage with the local kinship network
  • Attend a senior kinship care event

Learn more about the Kinship Care program by calling the Fulton County Starline at 404-613-6000 or emailing seniorservices@fultoncountyga.gov.
