Fulton County Celebrates Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

Fulton County Celebrates Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

March 02, 2026
The Fulton County Board of Commissioners will declare March as National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month (DDAM). In recognition for its work, Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD) will receive a proclamation during the March 4 Board of Commissioners Meeting at the Government Center.

DDAM is designated to raise awareness about the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in all facets of life, as well as the awareness of the barriers that people with disabilities may face. Individuals from Fulton County’s Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities’ three training centers in the North, Central and Southern regions of the county will join the Commissioners for the presentation of the annual proclamation.

“The Behavioral Health and Development Disabilities team is proud to be able to recognize the unlimited potential of all Fulton County residents who live, work and thrive in our communities—including those with developmental disabilities,” said BHDD Director LaTrina Foster. “The priority is to always provide quality services.”

Throughout the month, the nation will work together to raise awareness about the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities, as well as awareness of the barriers that people with disabilities still sometimes face in connecting to the communities in which they live. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), developmental disabilities are defined as impairments in physical, learning, language, or behavior areas, and include:

Autism spectrum disorders
Cerebral palsy
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder
Learning or intellectual disabilities
Hearing loss
Vision impairment
Other developmental delays
