Check now to see if you can save on this year’s taxes
Fulton County homeowners have until Wednesday, April 1, to seek a tax break that could save thousands of dollars on this year’s property taxes. That is the deadline to apply for a homestead exemption and have it in effect on the current year’s tax bill.
Fulton County, its cities and school districts offer a variety of homestead exemptions that can reduce the assessed value of owner-occupied houses. These exemptions have differing criteria for qualification: age, income, veteran or disability status. Every homeowner can qualify for a basic exemption on their primary residence.
The same application form is used for all exemptions, though some specialized exemptions require additional documentation. Once an application is received, the Fulton County Board of Assessors will apply the most beneficial exemption for which you qualify. Check out a full list of exemptions, qualifications, and required documents at www.fultonassessor.org/exemptions.
This year two new exemptions are available, one for homeowners within the Fulton County School District and one for those within the area of Atlanta Public Schools. For those who have successfully sought a basic exemption, assessors will apply one of the new exemptions automatically to those who qualify.
Property owners can apply for homestead exemptions online at www.fultonassessor.org or in person at any of the six Fulton County Board of Assessors offices.
