Commissioner Marvin S. Arrington Jr. Hosts 2026 School Supply Giveaway

Fulton County District 5 Commissioner Marvin S. Arrington, Jr. has announced the dates for the 2026-2027 school supply drive. The 12th Annual “It Takes a Village” Back-to-School Supply Giveaway will provide students with 3 opportunities to receive a backpack of supplies throughout the month of July.
Commissioner Arrington will host the events to ensure students have the tools needed to assist with their learning. To ensure that all students are able to receive needed supplies, participating families may only attend one event and only 2 backpacks will be provided per household.

Commissioner Arrington is also inviting college students who live in or go to school in Fulton County to participate in the College Essay Competition. Participating students are required to submit a 1500 word typed essay addressing the question “Should government, educational institutions, and private companies play a role in regulating or guiding the use of AI?”
All participants must be students currently enrolled in college. All essays must be submitted to marvin.arrington@fultoncountyga.gov no later than 4 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2026. Ten competition winners will be announced and will receive $500 book scholarships on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Gladys S. Dennard Library.
Backpacks with supplies will be distributed on a first-come-first-served basis to those who RSVP for an event. Residents need to have ID to verify residency and may only receive supplies at one location.
