Fulton County Champions National Recovery Month This September
August 31, 2026
This September, Fulton County recognizes National Recovery Month to build deeper community understanding around mental health and substance use disorders. This nationwide observance honors those navigating the challenges of addiction while fighting the stigma surrounding recovery.
The month will also be a time for the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (BHDD) to celebrate the continued success of individuals recovering from addiction and mental illness. The observance, which honors their journey and highlights the reality of long-term healing, will be recognized by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners with a proclamation on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.
“Our goal in Fulton County is to ensure anyone facing challenges knows that help is within reach,” said Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Director LaTrina Foster. “Mental health and substance use disorders are treatable, and there are many pathways to healing. Recovery Month celebrates the powerful reality that prevention works, treatment is effective, and people truly do recover.”
Recovery resources include opioid and addiction services and the Behavioral Health Crisis Center. Throughout the month of September, BHDD will be recognized for its work with the presentation of a proclamation and a community event.
