Fulton County Keeps Millage Rate Flat For 5th Year
Fulton County’s property tax rate will remain unchanged for the fifth consecutive year. The Fulton County Board of Commissioners (BOC) voted at its October 7 meeting to keep the General Fund property tax rate steady at 8.87 mills.
“Now is not the time for a tax increase,” Chairman Robb Pitts said. “Maintaining the current tax rate avoids placing a painful burden on the most vulnerable members of our community while fully funding the services we all enjoy and rely upon. I applaud my colleagues for joining me in voting to maintain a flat millage rate.”
Prior to setting the annual millage rate, the BOC held three public hearings to receive community input, as required by Georgia law.
Temporary tax bills were issued for Fulton County earlier this year with a due date of October 15. Since the millage rate remains unchanged, no additional bills will be issued.
Fulton County’s property tax rate declined steadily from 10.5 mills in 2015 to 8.87 mills in 2022, a net decrease of 16%.
Property taxes are the primary source of revenue for Fulton County and pay for a wide range of constituent services such as:
- Partnerships with Grady Health System and Morehouse School of Medicine to provide healthcare in underserved areas of the County
- Behavioral health, including free mental health services for children and adults, the Behavioral Health Crisis Center on Metropolitan Parkway, a new Health & Human Services center at 4700 North Point Parkway, and a similar center planned for the south
- Senior Services, including transportation and the operation of 14 neighborhood senior centers and four larger multipurpose senior centers
- Justice & public safety, including five courts, the District Attorney, Solicitor General, Public Defender, and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, including all jail facilities
- Elections, libraries, animal control, arts funding, and support for many nonprofit service providers
Fulton County offers many property tax relief measures for residents, including two floating homestead exemptions, exemptions for seniors and other special populations.
