Fulton County Commissioner Bridget Thorne Named to NACo Public Safety Committee

Fulton County Commissioner Bridget Thorne (District 1) has been named to the National Association of Counties’ Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee by President Mary Joe McGuire. Commissioner Thorne will represent the voices of Fulton County residents and other counties in setting national policy around this issue.

The NACo Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee is responsible for guiding policy platforms for counties around all matters pertaining to criminal justice and public safety systems, including criminal justice planning, law enforcement, courts, corrections, homeland security, community crime prevention, juvenile justice and delinquency prevention, emergency management, fire prevention and control, and civil disturbances.

“I am honored to join fellow County Commissioners around the nation in addressing issues such as law enforcement recruitment, mental health and justice, and others,” said Commissioner Thorne. “Public Safety is an issue that faces every local government in this nation, and I am excited to be part of the solution.”

Commissioner Thorne joined the Board of Commissioners in 2023 after election in 2022. Her district encompasses Johns Creek, and parts of Roswell, Alpharetta, and Sandy Springs.

During her tenure with the Board of Commissioners, she has been part of important policy decisions around justice public safety, including the Fulton County Jail and Court systems. She has also taken an active interest in the issue of human trafficking.

Commissioner Thorne is a graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a professional software designer and a grassroots community advocate and volunteer. She has served on several boards including Alpharetta Parks Visionary Committee, Alpharetta High School Foundation Board, Parent Teacher Student Association, Young Men’s Service League, Local and National Boards. She has also volunteered with many nonprofit organizations, including North Fulton Charities, Senior Services - Meals on Wheels, Miracle League, Habitat for Humanity, Homestretch, City of Refuge, Atlanta Union Mission, and World Relief.
