Happening in Fulton: Legislative Update - Week 1 2024
The Georgia General Assembly convened the 2024 legislative session this week for days 1-5. Hear more from Legislative Policy Analyst Jasmine Campbell. On legislative day 4, Governor Brian P. Kemp provided his State of the State Address where he announced his amended fiscal year 2024 and fiscal year 2025 budget request. This includes an additional $205 million dollars for mental health for a total budget of $1.6 billion dollars for the Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, raises for state workers including law enforcement agencies, and $1.4 billion dollars in additional spending for K-12 education. Fulton County's primary policy priorities operational funding for the Behavioral Health Crisis Center, funding options for a replacement jail facility, and property tax appeal reforms to ensure a more equitable tax burden for homeowners.
