Fulton County Arts & Culture Unveils the “Psalms for Black Girls” Exhibit

September 16, 2024
The work of contemporary artist, Shanequa Gay will be on display at the Emma Darnell Aviation Museum and Conference Center.

The Department of Arts & Culture presents, “Psalms for Black Girls,” a solo exhibition featuring the works of contemporary artist Shanequa Gay. This series of large-scale murals featuring photographs on tapestries of African American girls playing with monotone flags examines race, class, age, and vulnerability - and how it uniquely ties to rights, visibility, and policy in this country. Gay is interested in the ways that young African American girls participate, engage, and experiment with citizenship while also navigating a series of closures and exclusions to access their birthright in this nation.

The Artist Talk will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. The exhibit, which is free and opened to the public will run through January 18, 2025. For more information, visit www.fultonarts.org or call 404-612-8600.
