Fulton County Adopts New Student Attendance Protocol

January 30, 2025
To combat school truancy, Fulton County and its partners are working together to keep students in school. The Fulton County Student Attendance and School Climate Committee is excited to announce the adoption of a new attendance protocol for the 2024-2025 school year.

In recognition of the milestone, the Committee Chair Chief Judge Glanville of the Fulton County Superior Court, will hold a ceremonial signing at 4 p.m. on February 3, in the Fulton County Government Center’s Assembly Hall in downtown Atlanta.

The new protocol lays out clear steps for identifying, reporting, investigating, and addressing potential violations of the school attendance law, as required by state law. The Committee’s goal is to bring together state and local leaders, schools, and community programs to improve school attendance and create a positive environment in Fulton County schools. By working together, they’ve created a detailed plan tailored to the needs of Fulton County students, focusing on supporting their attendance and overall well-being.

Lashawnda Woods-Roberts, Sarah Babcock, and Margaret Schweizer, speaking on behalf of the Executive Board, thanked the Committee members for their dedication to finding proactive solutions that help every student thrive in welcoming schools with fewer unexcused absences.

The Committee is proud to work alongside its partners, including the Fulton County Superior Court, Fulton County Juvenile Court, Atlanta Public Schools, and Fulton County Schools, to make this vision a reality.
