Fulton County is celebrating Sadie G. Mays Health and Rehab Center's 78th anniversary. Hear more from Sadie G. Mays Development and Marketing Director Shirley Coleman. Sadie G. Mays is a 206 bid Skilled Nursing Facility located on Anderson Avenue; it's on the westside. We're a nonprofit, and we've been in operation since 1947. I'll tell you a little bit about our founder Mrs. Sadie Gray Mays. She was a social worker, she was a professor, community organizer, and she was also the wife of Dr. Benjamin Mays who many folks know was the longtime president of Morehouse College, one of Dr. Martin Luther King's mentors, and also on the Atlanta Board of Education. She was a powerhouse in her own right, and she would see the conditions that people were dealing with back in 1947 if they didn't have any family to take care of them, and she decided we've got to do something about it. So she got with her fellow church members, a whole group of ladies, and they decided to open up nursing home. That was the genesis of this facility; at that time it was called Happy Haven.
