Do I have to vote at my assigned precinct?

Yes. On Election Day, you are required to vote at your assigned precinct. However, during early voting, you may vote at any early voting location within the County. Code Sections 21-2-226(b) & 21-2-401(a)

Why did you move my polling location?

Polling locations are changed for various reasons: precincts no longer willing to host polling operations, polling place undergoing renovations, voter complaints due to parking and other issues, boundary line changes, etc. Registered voters will be notified by precinct card of all polling place changes prior to the an election.

Absentee voting

How can i obtain an absentee ballot?

Request your absentee ballot for the November 3, 2020 Election using the Georgia Absentee Ballot Portal  - https://ballotrequest.sos.ga.gov/.  

Or Download an Absentee Ballot Application here and upload it through the Fulton Absentee Portal as a .pdf or .jpg between 1MB and 5 MB.  Each submission must have only one application

Can a ballot be picked up for an individual who is requesting a ballot or someone else?

No. Absentee ballots are mailed and cannot be picked up in accordance with Code Section21-2-381 (2A)

Can anyone return an absentee ballot?

Effective April 2, 2019

How can I automatically receive an absentee ballot?

If you meet the following criteria: Elderly (65 or older), disabled, UOCAVA, Military Overseas, Overseas temporary resident, Military stateside, Overseas Permanent resident (federal offices only), you may choose to complete one application and receive a ballot for every election in the election cycle. For a presidential preference primary election, you will need to submit a separate application.

How do I make sure that the absentee ballot application is not rejected?

The application does require that you are a registered voter in Fulton County. The address as registered must be listed on the application. The application does require your signature. Instructions of how to complete the absentee ballot application is posted on the county’s website . The ballot has to be submitted by 7 p.m. on Election Day for regular elections and 8 p.m. when there is a candidate on the ballot for City of Atlanta Elections.

How long will it take to receive the *requested* absentee ballot?

The absentee ballot is mailed out within 2 business days after receiving your request, but delivery time may vary depending on the U.S. Postal Service.

I am on the automatic absentee rollover list Why haven't I received my ballot?

There are several reasons why you might not have received your absentee ballot. If you have not received a ballot, contact the absentee ballot division at 404-612-7060. 

What if my child is away at college-how can they apply for an absentee ballot?

In order for them to vote by absentee ballot, they must complete an absentee ballot application and return the application by fax: 404-612-3697; email: elections.absentee@fultoncountyga.gov; or US mail: 130 Peachtree Street SW, Suite 2186 Atlanta, Georgia 30303, Attn: Absentee Ballot Division. Please check with the university regarding residency to find out if voting absentee would affect their financial aid or scholarship eligibility. Learn more.

After I have registered to vote how long will it take to receive my voter precinct card?

A Voter Precinct card will be mailed to you from Fulton County 3 – 4 weeks after you register.

Do you know where I can find voter registration forms, and how many can I get?

You can complete your Voter Registration online or you or can also download the Voter Registration Forms. You can also visit a voter registration office to request application form, and if you are not a Deputy Registrar, you will receive only 25 applications.

How do I obtain a Precinct Card?

You will only receive a precinct card when you register to vote for the first time, change your name or address. Please visit https://www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/MVP/mvp.do to print a copy of your precinct card.

 

How do I register to vote? Where do i go to register to vote?

The Voter Registration Division has three locations to register to vote in person:

I am a college student. Can I register to vote with my school address?

Yes, college students who meet the generally applicable registration requirements may register to vote in the county where the student attends college. As a student, your home of record could affect scholarship eligibility and financial aid. Before changing your registration to the Georgia county where you attend college, make sure it does not conflict with any financial aid or scholarships you may receive from an out-of-state address.

I updated my voter registration with my new address, but it is not reflected in the system What do I do?

Please contact the Voter Registration Office at 404-612-3816 for help to verify your address change.

If I do not have a Georgia Driver License or ID, How do i obtain a voter ID card and where?

If you do not have valid identification for the purpose of voting, you may apply for a Georgia Voter ID card. You must be an active registered voter in Fulton County to qualify for a Georgia Voter ID card.  Visit any of the three Fulton County Voter Registration offices to obtain a Voter ID Card.

If I go to the polls and I am told that I am not registered to vote what should I do?

Before heading to the poll, you should check your voter registration status: https://www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/MVP/mvp.do or call the Voter Registration Office at 404-612-3816 to verify your status. If you are at the poll, ask for a provisional ballot that will allow you to cast your ballot.

When is the last day to register to vote?

The voter registration deadline is five Mondays prior to an election. (Code 1981, § 21-2-224). Deadlines can be found here

Can I use my college ID to vote?

College Student IDs are ONLY acceptable if it is a state-funded school. Student IDs from private universities, community colleges or online universities are unacceptable.

Am I allowed time off to vote on election day?

State law (Ga. Code Ann. § 21-2-404) provides that: Each employee in the state, shall upon reasonable notice to his or her employer, be permitted by his or her employer to take any necessary time off from his or her employment to vote in any municipal, county, state, or Federal political party primary or election for which such employee is qualified and registered to vote on the day on which such primary or election is held. Time off shall not exceed two hours.

Can I use my cell phone at the poll? My ballot is on my phone.

No. Cell phones and other electronic devices are prohibited inside of the polling place. Sample ballots are posted for viewing inside the poll.

May I take my child to the polls with me?

Yes, children are welcome at the polls.

What kind of identification do i need to vote?

According to state Code Section 21-2-419a, the following are acceptable forms of identification that should be presented at the poll:

  • A Georgia driver’s license, even if expired
  • Valid out-of-state driver’s license
  • Any valid state or federal issued photo ID
  • Valid U.S. passport
  • Valid employee photo ID
  • Valid U.S. military photo ID
  • Valid tribal photo ID

What type of identification do I need to register to vote?

  • Any valid state or federal government issued photo ID, including a FREE Voter ID Card issued by the county registrar’s office
  • A Georgia Driver’s License, even if expired;
  • A valid employee photo ID from any branch, department, agency, or entity of the U.S. Government, Georgia, or any county, municipality, board, authority or other entity of this state;
  • A valid U.S. passport ID;
  • A valid U.S. military photo ID;
  • A valid tribal photo ID;
  • A copy of a current utility bill;
  • A bank statement;
  • A government check;
  • A paycheck; or
  • Any other government document that shows the name and address of the individual registering to vote

When is the best time to go to the polls to avoid having to wait in long lines?

We strongly recommend you take advantage of early voting when there are a number of locations and times to cast your ballot. We also offer weekend voting for some elections. If you prefer to wait until Election Day, keep in mind that other residents have the same concern, so please be prepared to wait.

Can I bring someone to the poll to assist me?

Yes, as of December 4, 2018, “In all future elections, primaries, and run-off elections, all voters who require assistance to vote due to blindness, disability, or inability to read or write may receive assistance by a person of the voter’s choice except for the voter’s employer, an agent of that employer, or an officer or agent of the voter’s union. This rule applies regardless of whether there is a federal candidate on the ballot in Georgia.”

When will my vote be recorded and added to my voter participation history after I vote on Election Day?

Per the state code provided by the Secretary of State’s office, “The board of registrars shall enter into the state-wide voter registration system credit for voting by qualified electors to the Secretary of State within 60 days of a primary or election for the purpose of maintaining the list of electors and voter history.”

How do I apply to be a poll worker?

You must complete the online poll worker applicationOnce your application has been processed, you will be contacted by a coordinator to follow-up on your interest.

How can I request voter education and/or a demo on the voting equipment?

Contact a Voter Education and Outreach Coordinator at 404-612-7020 to schedule a demonstration.

How do I obtain my W-2 for working at the polls

By law, all W-2 forms must be mailed by January 31st. Only poll workers earning $600 or more will receive a W-2. If you meet this criteria, please call 404-612-7020 to inquire.

How do I request to have a voter registration drive?

Contact the Voter Registration Office at 404-612-3816 to speak to the Deputy Registrar Coordinator. They will help you coordinate a drive for your organization.

How do I work early voting?

Early voting is staffed through Happy Faces Personnel Group. Please contact Happy Faces at 770-414-9071regarding early voting employment in Fulton County Government.

When and where does Fulton conduct deputy registrar training classes?

Deputy registrar training classes are held at all three Fulton County Voter Registration & Election offices.  If you would like to have deputy registrar training at your business, please call 404 612-3816 and ask for the Deputy Registrar Coordinator.

General Questions

Can Someone With a Felony Conviction Vote?

Anyone currently serving a sentence for a felony conviction (including probation and parole) cannot vote. Once the sentence is completed, the individual should complete a voter registration application. It is unnecessary to apply for the restoration of civil rights in order to vote.
